Catch 22 Limbo - July 30th, 2009 at 3:45 pm

What is an illustrator to do? Recession has caused a constriction of all kinds of work contracts in the publishing world. There are many warnings to the unpublished artist: Don’t take it personally. Be patient but persistent. Be creative in how you approach art directors, editors, and designers… I believe in all this good advice. And so, I’ll keep searching for that first toe hold as I practice making pictures and writing stories. Is it true that children’s books are selling better than books for adults? Is self-publishing a viable way to go?

What a great site, Kev! I love your black & whites and your book illustrations.

It is very, very hard to get published, whether you make terrific art like this or write weird novels like mine. My only advice is to keep on keeping on. I didn’t “do” anything “right.” I just got lucky. Maybe you will too.
